Our Practitioners

Lynn Welch Puana, MD
Founder & Medical Director, Premier Integrative & Cognitive Medical Institute
Lynn Welch Puana, MD is the Founder and Medical Director of the Premier Integrative & Cognitive Medical Institute. After more than two decades treating patients with chronic pain, trauma, addiction, and complex medical needs, she became deeply committed to transforming how we approach brain and mental wellness. Her passion for this work grew from both her clinical experience and her father’s missed Parkinson’s diagnosis, which was only recognized after he had already progressed to end stage Alzheimer’s—long past the time when early detection could have changed his outcome.
This experience shaped her core belief: we must care for the brain proactively, with the same commitment we give to heart disease or cancer prevention. She advocates for establishing a baseline of brain health early in adulthood and monitoring it over time—allowing patients to catch changes early, get answers sooner, and preserve the best version of themselves.
Driven by both science and compassion, Dr. Puana designed PICMI around the most advanced diagnostic tools available today, including genomic testing, functional brain mapping, and cellular medicine evaluations. Her goal is to help patients understand, through clear scientific evidence, why they think, feel, and function the way they do—so they can finally begin healing in a real and meaningful way.
Through integrative therapies, cellular medicine, and state-regulated psychedelic-assisted treatments, PICMI offers patients a personalized path toward emotional balance, cognitive strength, and true mental wellness. Dr. Puana’s mission is simple: to care for the whole person, to bring clarity where there has been confusion, and to help every patient build a healthier, stronger, more hopeful version of themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

- Are psychedelic therapies safe and legal?Yes. Ketamine is FDA-approved and administered under medical supervision. Psilocybin is legal in Colorado in authorized settings.
- How do ketamine and psilocybin treatments work? They activate neuroplasticity, helping the brain rewire itself while easing symptoms of depression, PTSD, and trauma.
- What's included in my first visit?A comprehensive evaluation, personalized treatment plan, and guidance on the best next steps.
- How do peptides and regenerative therapies support mental health?By improving cellular repair, balancing hormones, and reducing inflammation, peptides enhance both physical and emotional resilience.
- Do you offer both in-person and virtual care?Yes — we provide online mental health services throughout Colorado, with select therapies (ketamine, psilocybin, IV) available in-person.
- Do you accept insurance? We’re not an insurance-based practice due to the depth and complexity of the care we provide, which extends beyond what insurance typically covers. Traditional insurance rewards short visits, high patient volume, and limited, code-based treatment plans, while we prioritize time, depth, and clinically driven decisions. Many of our offerings — including functional brain mapping, quantitative EEG analysis, precision cognitive and mental-health programs, integrative protocols, peptide and cellular optimization therapies, psychedelic-adjacent preparation and integration, extended visits, and high-touch follow-up — are not covered by insurance. This approach allows us to deliver comprehensive, root-cause care without the constraints of the traditional insurance model.
